    project summary
The East Juab Water Conservancy District and the CUWCD are co-sponsors of the East Juab Water Efficiency Project (EJWEP). The project conserves water by converting the water conveyance system from open canals to pipelines, which improves the efficiency; and by converting on-farm water use from flood to sprinkler irrigation. The project would improve the efficiency of water use for approximately 5,300 acres of the total 7,850 acres of irrigated land in the Nephi Irrigation Company.

Currently, 80 percent of the lands are flood irrigated and 20 percent are sprinkler irrigated. It is anticipated that an additional 1,600 acres of land would be converted from flood to sprinkler irrigation when EJWEP is implemented. This will increase sprinkler irrigation in the 5,300 acre project area from about 20 percent to 50 percent.

    The Main Pipeline

The Main Pipeline portion of the project involves replacing existing earth and deteriorated concrete canals with a pipeline. The Main Pipeline’s length will be 16,160 feet long, and will be constructed of 60-inch diameter welded steel pipe. Major components of the EJWEP Main Pipeline include:
  • Removal, stockpile, and replacement of topsoil
  • Trench excavation
  • 60"-diameter pipe fabrication and delivery
  • 60"-diameter pipe installation, bedding, and backfill
  • Construction of various pipe appurtenances
  • Reconstruction of fences, ditches, and culverts
  • Pavement reconstruction
  • The Main Pipeline would be constructed approximately 400 feet to the west of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks on the west side of Nephi, generally following the alignment of the existing main north and south flowing ditches.

Bid opening for the construction of the East Juab Water Efficiency Project Main Pipeline will be held Monday, March 16, 1998. See Notice Inviting Bids for more information, and project schedule
