Overview

The ULS is a component of the Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project (CUP). The CUP was authorized in 1956 (Public Law 85-485) as a participating project of the Colorado River Storage Project (CRSP) to develop and distribute a portion of Utah's share of Colorado River water for use in the Uinta Basin and the Great Basin of Utah. The water for the ULS will be provided by a trans-basin diversion of 101,900 acre-feet of water from Strawberry Reservoir and by exchange of District water rights in Utah Lake.

NEPA compliance for the ULS is administered by three joint-lead agencies-the Central Utah Water Conservancy District, the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Utah Reclamation Mitigation and Conservation Commission. The District is authorized to work with the DOI to develop, construct, and implement a plan to complete the Bonneville Unit. Other participants include a wide range of state and federal agencies, water users, interested organizations and the general public.
